Javier Baez Out of Cubs Lineup Sunday

Jordan Bastian reports Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez is out of the lineup Sunday, in a series finale with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Baez left Saturday’s game early due to back tightness, going 1-3 in the 2-3 win against the Pirates Saturday. This season, Baez has appeared in 28 games, with a slash line of .257/.291/.523, hitting eight home runs. With an off day, Monday, it is unclear if Baez will be ready for the series opener against the Cleveland Indians on May 11.

Ildemaro Vargas will slot in for Baez Sunday at shortstop, batting eighth for the Cubs. In his first season with the Cubs, he has appeared in six games this season, mostly in relief roles. He has started three games for the team, with a slash line of .111/.273/.111 on the season. Vargas is priced at $2,000 on FanDuel.

The Cubs look to sweep the series against the Pirates Sunday and are a -166 moneyline favorite in a game with a 6 run total on FanDuel Sportsbook.
