Kiermaier left Saturday’s game vs. the Athletics with an injury, and he was later diagnosed with a left wrist sprain. He picked up the injury while attempting a steal on Sunday, and he was officially placed on the IL on Sunday. Manuel Margot replaced Kiermaier in the lineup on Saturday, and he will draw the start in center field and bat second vs. the Athletics on Sunday. Louis Head has been also been recalled to take his spot on the active roster.
Injuries have been an issue for Kiermaier for the duration of his career. He’s played more than 150 games just once in his eight big-league seasons, and that came all the way back in 2015. He hasn’t played more than 129 games in any season since then.
Kiermaier is a below-average hitter at the plate, but he’s known as one of the best defensive outfielders in the business. He’s won three gold gloves throughout his career, including the American League Platinum Glove award in 2015.
The Rays are listed as +104 underdogs Sunday vs. the Athletics on FanDuel Sportsbook.
