Ronald Jones Not Cleared to Return to Practice

Jones was not involved in the Buccaneers’ first-round matchup vs. the Washington Football Team. He practiced in full all week despite dealing with finger and quad injuries, but his quad reportedly swelled up after pre-game warmups. The team had already declared inactives by that point, so Jones was active but did not end up seeing the field. There is some speculation that the plane ride to Washington is ultimately what led to the swelling, and head coach Bruce Arians said that Jones was “uncertain” for Sunday’s matchup vs. the Saints.

He didn’t get off to a great start this week, picking up a DNP at practice on Wednesday. The swelling is still an issue, but Jones will have an extra day to prepare after the Bucs played on Saturday last week.

If Jones is unable to suit up, expect Leonard Fournette to handle most of the backfield opportunities. He finished with 19 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown last week vs. Washington, and he also added four catches for 39 yards as a receiver. He would be a very appealing option on FanDuel if he draws his second-straight start.

The Bucs and Saints will square off for the third time this season, and the Saints were able to win the first two matchups. The Saints are currently listed as three-point home favorites for this week’s matchup on FanDuel Sportsbook.
